Categorizing Event Sequences Using Regular Expressions
نویسنده
چکیده
IASSIST Quarterly Introduction Researchers who work with large sequential datasets are often limited in the kinds of analytic strategies they can use because of the sheer size of the data. Automated techniques for analyzing sequences were developed in the 1960s by scientists studying DNA, RNA, and proteins. In a classic volume on sequence analysis, Sankoff and Kruskal (1983) demonstrated its potential application for subjects as diverse as bird songs and macromolecules. In other work, Andrew Abbott developed “Optimal Matching” for sequence analysis in the field of sociology.

متن کاملChecking Properties along Multiple Reconfiguration Paths for Component-Based Systems
Reconfiguration paths are used to express sequences of successive reconfiguration operations within a component-based approach allowing dynamic reconfigurations. We use constructs from regular expressions—in particular, alternatives—to introduce multiple reconfiguration paths. We show how to put into action procedures allowing architectural, event, and temporal properties to be proved. Our meth...
متن کاملExploring EFL Learners’ Use of Formulaic Sequences in Pragmatically Focused Role-play Tasks
Communicative language use largely entails regular patterns consisting of pre-constructed phrases or sequences. These sequences have been examined by many researchers to find the situation-based formulas which may help L2 learners follow a possibly more target-like speaking system. This study, therefore, explored two categories of formulaic expressions including speech formulas and situation-bo...
متن کاملTITLE PAGE From sequences to a functional unit
Functional insights at the gene product level would help the drug discovery industry to effectively tap targets for therapeutics and biomedical applications. A complete functional unit can be multi-domain, and it is the co-occurrence and interaction of these multiple domains that determines the function and functional diversity of their gene products. With at least 10% of genes from complete ge...
متن کاملProtocol Synthesis from Context-Free Processes Using Event Structures
In this paper, we propose a protocol synthesis method based on a partial order model (called event structures) for the class of context-free processes. First, we assign a unique name called event ID to every event executable by a given service specification. An event ID is a finite sequence of symbols derived from the context-free process specification. Then we show that some interesting sets o...
